The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer who terrorized northern California in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. The identity of the killer still remains a mystery to this day. Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco were the places that the Zodiac committed his atrocities. This all happened between December 1968 and October 1969. He killed 5 people and claimed to have killed 37 in total. His targets included four men and three women between the ages of 16 and 29, only 2 of whom survived. During the times of his murders, the killer would send handwritten notes to the press, stating he was the killer and giving certain evidence to proof that he was. In those letters, he referred to himself as the Zodiac Killer. If you want to know more about the Zodiac, this BuzzFeed unsolved video is really great.
The name D.B Cooper is used to refer to an unidentified man who hijacked a Boeing 727 aircraft in the airspace between Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington. This all happened on November 24 of 1971. He extorted $200,000 in ransom money (equivalent to $1,180,000 in 2016), all of which in 20 dollar bills. He then jumped and parachuted to an uncertain fate. Despite all the FBI investigation that was conducted, the perpetrator has never been located or identified. This case is the only unsolved case in air piracy in commercial aviation history. A preponderance of expert opinion suggests that due to all of the existing evidence, D.B Copper most likely did not survive his high-risk jump. The FBI kept the case open for an active investigation for 45 years following the hijacking. The case still remained unsolved. If you want to learn more about D.B Copper, this BuzzFeed unsolved is also really great.
Here are some pieces of evidence to support that they could be the same person.
Disclaimer: This is just a theory, none of these pieces of evidence are factual, and are just my opinion.
One evidence to support the theory that the Zodiac Killer and D.B Cooper is the same person is the time this all goes down in. The Zodiac started his killings in 1968 and ended his killings in late 1969. D.B Copper hijacked the plane in November 1971. That would have given the Zodiac a good year to plan his Hijack.
They look similar
Another piece of evidence to support this theory is that the composite drawing/sketch are very similar. they are different in some ways because of the fact that there aren’t any actual photographs of the two, only sketches drawn by FBI with details from witnesses, and the witnesses themselves.
When D.B Cooper was hijacking the plane, he made a bomb threat, stating that he has a bomb. The zodiac killer had diagrams of bombs in his letters and making threats of putting bombs on school buses.
